Krishnagiri: The Hidden Gem of Tamil Nadu

Krishnagiri is a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu along with the administrative headquarters of the Krishnagiri district. Krishnagiri is positioned 90 kilometers southwest of Bangalore and 250 kilometers away from Chennai; it is located in the foothills of the Western Ghats and thus provides a beautiful landscape with hills and rocky terrain.

The district is mainly known to be producing agricultural output, especially its mangoes that are highly grown and exported across and overseas. Other crops include groundnuts, guavas, and vegetables making agriculture an essential part of the regional economy. Aside from farming, the region has an emerging sector of industry where small and medium enterprises like textile and manufacturing units supplement local output.

The city of Krishnagiri has plenty of temples and other tourist-friendly locations. Amongst these are the Krishnagiri Fort, located atop a hill and is known for offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas. Krishnagiri Fort holds immense historical importance as it goes back to the Nayak period and attracts visitors who come to learn about history.

By road and rail, the city is reasonably well connected. Krishnagiri Junction connects it to other parts of Tamil Nadu as well as its neighboring state Karnataka. The city stands along NH44 that easily connects to major cities such as Bangalore and Chennai.

Nature lovers and tourists would be able to enjoy the natural beauty of Krishnagiri, especially in the Hogenakkal Falls, popularly known as “the Niagara of India,” and the Krishnagiri Reservoir, which are both known for their beauty and serene landscape. All these and the agricultural sector combined with other cultural attractions make Krishnagiri an interesting place in the state of Tamil Nadu.
